Description:

Automate Your Processing Line!

Almaco can help you save time and resources by automating your seed lab processes. There have been individual processes for shelling, cleaning, grading, treating, and packaging your seed. The processing line helps automate these individual steps by pneumatically transferring grain from process to process. Researchers can drop ears into the sheller and get treated seed out the other end of the line with no contamination between samples. A processing line can help you eliminate repeated seed handling, potential seed spillage and speeds up the seed processing time.

The processing lines work like this:

  • Corn is shelled and pick-up via pneumatic seed transfer and taken to a seed grader/cleaner.
  • The corn is run through a two screen cleaner to remove small material/kernels and large material/kernels, the remaining seed is pick-up via pneumatic seed transfer and taken to the color sorter.
  • The corn is run through the color sorter to remove damaged or off color type kernels, the remaining seed is picked up via pneumatic seed transfer and taken to the seed treater.
  • We recommend having a volumetric hopper above the treater which allows you to pre-set the amount of seed going into the treater so you can automate the injection of treatment.
  • Once seed treatment is complete it is ready to be counted.
  • There are several points throughout the line where seed is discarded (grader, sorter, treater). We recommend a seed discard system which is a big central vacuum system which automatically removes the unwanted seed.

About every 45-50 seconds another sample can be entered into the line at the sheller. The processing line saves time and people resources, the processing line can be operated with 1-2 people.

Features:

Almaco can sell you individual pieces of equipment or can turnkey the entire shelling line. The whole line is modular so you can start with just a few items and grow the line as resources permit. You can also include barcodes, packet printers and seed counters to continue to automate the line.

Additional items to consider:

  • Dust collection, is you current system large enough, what CFM is required
  • Layout and space requirements, generally you need at least 20’ x 20’
  • Compressed air, both the color sorter and treater require compressed air
  • Electrical needs, amps required, electrical panel with all start/stop switches
  • Safety concerns, decibels level, equipment placement, etc
